Objectives This series of survey is aimed at identifying changes in the work styles and attitudes of young people in major urban areas. The first survey was conducted with the aim of assessing changes in young people’s career decisions and perceptions amid a rise in the number of young people called “freeters” (young people in atypical employment), as young workers increasingly changed jobs and led less stable careers starting in the latter half of the 1990s. Since then the survey has been conducted every five years. 2. Survey year Every 5 years since 2001 (2006, 2011, 2016, and 2021). 3. Survey method Random area sampling in 2001, 2006 and 2011 surveys. Random sampling and mail method in 2016 and 2021 surveys. 4. Survey target Young people in the Tokyo metropolitan area, specifically, 2,000 persons aged 18-19 in 2001 and 2006 surveys, 2,058 persons aged 20-29 in 2011 survey, and 8,000 persons aged 25-34. 5.
